DAY SAILER

20x22" acrylic on linen .....$1600

I've finished the larger pieces I was working on. This one I just completed yesterday. All done with a palette knife, it's pretty sketchy and that's just how I like 'em. This leaves a little to the imagination. I think the viewer should get to participate in the composition. Realism is great. I appreciate it and I like to work on my technical skills too,  but if we are only trying to reproduce what we see..........cameras do a nice job of capturing the subject. I'd prefer to suggest something and add my take on how it makes me feel.

A fellow artist, Denise Broussard suggested my painting from a couple days ago would look good in a large format. I thought that sounded fun so I made this faked version just to see what it would look like. I like it!

SURFIN' SAFARI

6x6" acrylic on gessoboard......................SOLD
I liked doing these last two. What's not to like about old VW vans? They have a smiling face and come in fun colors too. The ultimate surf wagon! So I have put this one in the DAILY PAINTWORKS giveaway. That means it will be given away in a drawing on August 17th. To be eligible  for the drawing you need to have bought a painting through  daily paintworks in the 30 days prior to the drawing. What do I get? I get a weeks worth of promotion through their website and facebook page. A fair trade i think.

FISH EYE

6x6" acrylic on gessoboard..................$100 SOLD

I'm working on some larger paintings right now but I get frustrated when I don't get something finished in a day. So I am trying to do both . I spend some time on the large one and then do a small one from start to finish. Satisfying! If only I could keep this up. I would be so prolific! I know better though. One of these days the muse will be gone again.

This guy reminds me of an old fellow I used to build houses with. Nice man and a good carpenter but he had the coldest, fish eyed stare.

Another instrument. Both of my boys play the trumpet so here it is. My daughter plays flute...that explains the previous posts. I like shiny, reflective stuff in my little still lifes.

Checking The Pots

6x8" acrylic on gessoboard...............................$100 SOLD
                                             CLICK TO BUY WITH PAYPAL
I see crab boats day and night from our house in all kinds of foul winter weather. This one was checking the pots early one rare, sunny morning about a month ago. I was on the beach trying to get a nice shot of it just beyond the surf. Of course my batteries were dead when I tried to shoot. I was about to lose my  shot because they were heading back out, so I rubbed my batteries in my hands for a minute to warm them up and tried again. Bingo! It worked!

NIGHT VISION (in stages)

This is a big one! 42"x62" acrylic on canvas. It started out even larger, but I began cutting it down right away. I didn't like having to use a ladder to reach the top! The photo was even darker and had a nice feel to it. But I didn't want to end up with a couple white dots on a black field so I lightened it up some trying to get the feel of the lights glowing in the dark, but still having enough color to make it fun. Again, I did this almost entirely with just knives..... trying to avoid getting bogged down in detail.
The RIVERSEA GALLERY  took this off my hands and hung it with some other marine scenes of mine.
